Future Science Advisory Board Goals and Activities

  • Oversee and advise on collection, installation, management, and accessioning of living collections.
  • Advise on the creation and management of library and herbarium collections.
  • Facilitate and forge research and educational partnerships with other botanical gardens and institutions, county state and federal government organizations, and universities.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of biological inventories, local restoration ecology projects, research on Mediterranean plants and ecology, and conservation of rare Central Coast species.
  • Help the gardens' living collections serve as resources for local flora recovery and reintroduction projects.
  • Advise on horticultural issues (pest management, water regimens, soils, etc.) as they arise.
  • Help foster the educational mission of the garden by participating in and facilitating courses, seminars, field trips, certificate programs, as well as workshops on gardening, horticulture, natural history, botany and related areas.
  • Help design and develop new educational programs that promote appreciation, enjoyment, conservation, and understanding of Mediterranean plants and ecosystems.
